Northwoods 3 Gun Group presents

Rimfire Speed Steel
Shooting a stage

CHECK IN

  • Arrive at 8am for registration, squad assignments, safety brief and range rules.
  • On the range, all guns are transported unload and in cases or bags. There are designated "safe areas/tables" where no ammo is allowed and unloaded guns maybe handled for repair or maintenance and then returned to bags or cases until called to the firing line.
  • Squads are assigned to stages to start the match. A stage briefing is given and the shooting order is given.
  • Each stage has 5 or more "plates" that you shoot in any order hitting the "stop plate" (red post) last to get your "string time."
  • The "shooting box" is where you start. A table for your gun and ammo is next to the box and in front of the "aim point" (a marker or sign on the ground.)

  • When you are called, bring your gun and ammo to the shooting box. With your gun still cased, let the RO know that you are ready to begin

  • When the RO says: "Load and make ready," you can load your gun and check your sights keeping the muzzle pointed down range at all times. Failure to keep your gun pointed in a safe direction down range will result in a match disqualification (DQ).  The RO might issue a warning but it is the shooter's primary responsibility.  When in doubt of anything, stop, and ask for help.  There is no need to rush.
  • You can take your stance in the shooting box but don't move out of the box without permission from your RO. Sight pictures maybe taken but an accidental discharge is a DQ.

  • After a brief pause, unless you say something or indicate otherwise, the RO will assume that you are ready to begin shooting.  If you are not ready, say so and the RO will re-start the make ready sequence.

  • Within 1 to 4 seconds, you hear the BEEP - the "start signal." This starts the timer and you can shoot at  the targets in any order but you must hit the stop plate last.  If you miss a plate, you can take a makeup shot but you must hit the stop plate last.
  • When you finish a string, stay in the shooting box and get ready for your next of 5 trys.  You can change mags or remove and replace your high capacity mag to show that you are ready for the next string.
  • Point your gun at the aim point to let the RO know you are ready for the next string and he will say: "Stand By" followed by the beep.
