Rimfire Speed Steel

Overview

Rimfire Speed Steel is a competitive event where people shoot .22LR rimfire pistols, rimfire rifles or rimfire revolvers at an array of  steel plates as quickly as possible.

Targets can be 10" or 12" round, various shapes & sizes, even 18 x 24" rectangles and are placed from 7 to 35 yards away. There can be five to eight or more "plates" in each stage.  One of them is the "stop plate," marked with a red post and the timer stops when hit.

Competitors form squads, and the  squads rotate through the stages – each shooter shots the targets five times – keeping his/her best four times - "strings" - for stage and match scoring.

A Range Officer (RO) and Stats Officer (SO) observe the shooter and record the results.  When everyone in the squad has finished shooting, they move to the next stage.
